We made it to the States; Newport, Rhode Island in fact. The place we will be calling home for the better part of the next six months. I don't really have too many photos of the trip - I mainly concentrated on some videoing (I am 99% of the way through the edit, so standby for that ball of excitement soon!).
I don't have too many stories from the trip either, it took us four or so days to go from Antigua to Bermuda, sailing the whole way. The Bermuda stop was a little unplanned, we had to wait for Tropical Cyclone Alberto to pass over, so we went to Bermuda and hung there, in the rain, for three days.
I don't believe in the Bermuda Triangle conspiracies, all the planes and vessels that were lost all seemed to have a legit reason why (storms etc) so the whole alien thing is best left for the Nevada Desert. However we did have a few peculiar things happen to us in the area. Our navigation program went on the blink just as we were entering the bay in Bermuda, a bay that has an entrance of 50 metres, and is surrounded by reefs and waves..... not ideal. Our wind indicator also packed it in whilst there, which is a pretty important piece of equipment to have on a sailing superyacht! There were one or two other things that also happened in or around Bermuda that were strange, but they escape me now.
From there it was another three days north until we hit Rhode Island. We crossed paths with a couple of the Volvo Yachts one night as they were on their way to Lisbon in Portugal, Groupama and Abu Dhabi both averaging over 17knots the whole time they were on our radar!
The weather cleared up and was pretty nice until the final morning, where it was a full pea soup fog, with just 100m visibility and hundreds of fishing pots to slalom through. It was a pretty miserable reunion with Newport for me, however provided some pretty epic scenery as we came through the heads and into the heartland of the America's Cup.
Since we have been here it has been 100% tourist mode, but I will delve further into that on the next instalment.
Ears: Raised Among Wolves
One of the the contenders for the video song, but missed out due to song length.
Kamaxitha leaving Falmouth Harbour a few hours before us.
On the road again.
Cam loving it, it appears?
The best thing about the 2-6am watch.
Cam
Bermuda
Fede as we were leaving Bermuda, Hannah took this photo, I was on the Foredeck doing the anchor when this squall hit - you could say that only having shirt and shorts on was a little underdressed on my behalf.
The entrance to Bermuda, where our Navnet packed it in.
Doing our very own Yacht Tracker of the Volvo Race.
Cevon - coming from Guyana and the Caribbean, this was probably the coldest he has ever been!
Jim on fog watch for the last 30miles of the trip.
