We left Antibes around 10pm on Thursday night, bound for Kusadasi in Turkey, which is where I am writing this - under a tree, accompanied by a nice cool beer.
Our course pretty much took us south, along the outside of Cosica and Sardinia, in between Sicily and Libya / Tunisia, then across the Ionian Sea and through the Greek Islands to eventually hit Turkey. It was a pretty easy passage, although most are on a boat as big as this one. We did stop at Sardinia for a few hours to fix our boat log, and apart from one afternoon where the sea glassed out, it was mostly reaching in 15 - 25 knots of breeze.
Being on the 2-6 watch (both am and pm) meant some pretty nice sunrises, and I am almost certain that I am one of the very few people to see the sunrise over the Greek party island of Ios who hasn't been on the juice all night! Our close proximity to Libya and Tunisia was quite bizarre, in the sense that we were sailing a $50 million yacht whilst on the radio we were hearing NATO/US/UN warships giving orders about weapons and off limit areas. I swear there are some sketchy dealings going on in that part of the world.
We made it to turkey around 7pm on Tuesday night, packed the boat up and went for a look around of our new home for the next 6 weeks.
More to follow..........
Ears: The Gaslight Anthem (one of my favourite albums of the last 18months, I hadn't listened to them for at least 6 months and for some reason they were my band of the crossing, having listened to them at least 2-3 times a day, not sure why, it just happened).
Sardinia stop off.
