Hawt Cawfee!

Our first weekend in the US also happened to be the Memorial Day Weekend, which was good as it gave us all a chance to check the place out. The Saturday was spent cruising around Newport as well as looking for a bookshop in Providence - to no avail.

Sunday however is pretty much what this post is written for; we made the trek to New York for the day. Leaving the boat at 6:30am, we parked the car around 11ish somewhere around 37th st. We literally spent the rest of the day walking, trying to get as much tourist stuff done as possible, without rushing of course (I hate rushing!).

In the end, we hooked up Grand Central Station, Times Square, Central Park, MOMA, Top of the Rock, and a bit/lot of shopping. I was stoked to finally get back to the City almost four years since my last time here. Looking at the photos from last time (before i started with photography), I always wanted to go back in time and take these photos again, properly. Already having a grasp of the city, I already had ideas in my head for a decent shot.

Then of course I got there, and, well........ I was more like one of those over the top shoppers on a boxing day sale and way too excited to think about any of my ideas.

Definite lowlight of the day was throwing away my precious wheels, a $10 pair I picked up 18months ago and basically been around the world in. They now reside in a bin on 5th ave, or on some bums feet. But I will always be thankful for the service they gave.

The drive home was hectic in a sense, leaving NYC around 9pm, we somehow ended up in the middle of a youth street fight whilst at a red light in Harlem. It wasn't too bad, just a 15 year-old kid with his shirt off yelling across the street to another bunch of kids (of which we were in the middle). The someone started chasing someone else and then a gang of them appeared from nowhere chasing another gang from nowhere. Then the whole street emptied out, including us, as we broke at least 6 road rules to vacate the area.

Stuck in slow traffic for an hour or so, plus the already 15hr day wasn't ideal, so I handed the helm over to Hannah to bring her home. Only to wake up an hour later, at Providence Airport, half and hour further than we should be. We got home at 1am.

It was definitely a day I will look back on fondly.

Here are some photos, and a song about, and by, some of NYC's favourites.
