Classics

There was a Classics Regatta in Monaco when we were there, I got up early one morning to have a walk and check them out. Some amazingly beautiful boats were there and it definitely makes me miss our little "Tequila" back home.

Over the season, especially during the Monaco Yacht Show, you would hear a lot of people always ask the same question, "How big is your boat?". Generally it would be a legitimate thing to say, but I think there is way too much focus on the size of boats now, in a grand scheme of one-upmanship, everybody just wants to build a boat that is bigger than the next guy - which is fine until shit boats like the Maltese Falcon get built (in my eyes she is the worst boat full stop). There are actually designs out for a new Dubois sloop that is 100m in length, with a rig that is 125m tall (however speaking to the designers they reckon the mast will be around the 138m mark)!

I think that is amazing, however I have yet to see a modern superyacht that has looked as nice as these old ladies of the sea. In a sense, this is where modern sailing all started, and by the looks of it, there are still a number of people out there who appreciate that fact.
